Sandpiper Handmade was born during the Covid-19 crisis, as Jacqui sewed face masks for medical staff and essential workers. When masks became required for the general public, she sent them to people in need up and down the East Coast - to-date she's made over 110 masks and a handful of surgical caps. Jacqui's love for sewing and crafting has turned into a small at-home business, where she creates custom apparel and offers alterations.
Located a few miles from Long Beach Island, NJ, Sandpiper Handmade takes inspiration from ease and beauty of life at the shore.
Jacqui is the creator of Sandpiper Handmade. She is an entrepreneur at heart and this project gives her the opportunity to be creative while honing her business and marketing skills. Not only is Jacqui the sewist, but she created the logo and branding, designed and maintains the website, updates social media, and manages every aspect of the shop with very detailed spreadsheets.
She started sewing around age 12 with her Mom and has always loved to craft and create. After having 2 kids and gained/lost a TON of pregnancy weight, none of her clothes fit right. Brand new clothes, old clothes, didn't matter. That's when she decided to make her own shirts and dresses for the summer - and once she took her measurements, it became very apparent why nothing fit (see the cringe-worthy size chart below). She figured a lot of women probably have the same frustrating experience - and Sandpiper Handmade was born.
How can anyone expect store-bought clothes to fit with measurements like this? Raise your hand if you're in the same boat. For reference, this is the size chart for the Patters 4 Pirates Runabout Romper.
